I did translations for Hungarian websites, from Hungarian into English, translated a children\'s book from French into Hungarian, and did some interpreting jobs as well, where I had to interpret from Hungarian and English into French. I was a summer trainee at a Hungarian newspaper, where I had to translate articles from English and from French into Hungarian. I work fast and am very efficient. I have a good general knowledge, and being multicultural, I am quite sensitive to linguistic subtleties. (Click here to see this translator's profile)

Rob Dallison
My career has exposed me to extensive situations where translating and/or interpreting were necessary on a daily basis. Originally from the UK with a literary background, I lived and worked in France for 10 years and am now based in the USA since 2001. I am 100% bilingual in English and French, and I speak and write fluent Spanish. I can provide translation, proof-reading and interpreting services in all three languages. I am also a member of ATA (the American Translators Association) and will shortly be taking my ATA certification for English to French translation as well as French to English translation. Successful translation depends as much on cultural understanding as on linguistic knowledge. I work closely with my clients to ensure that their message is being translated - not just their words. Please consult the sample document (link on the right) to see an example of my work. I look forward to working with you! (Click here to see this translator's profile)

Member of ITI (Institute of Translation & Interpreting) MA in Applied Translation Studies (University of Leeds; 2006-07) BA French Studies (University of Leeds; 2001-05) *** Feedback from a satisfied client (19/02/08) *** We gave Christopher Hall a document of some 600 plus lines (some 7,500 words) of subtitles to translate from English into French. Communications with Christopher were smooth; turnaround time was four days, which is fast. This is our longest segment, and the toughest. This is the fastest time that ANYONE has translated this segment into ANY language! We are very happy with Christopher Hall\'s work, and would be glad to do business with him again (Translations for Progress Feedback Forum). After 4 years of doing a French degree in which both French-English and English-French translation featured heavily, I have recently completed an MA in Applied Translation Studies at the University of Leeds. Throughout this one-year intensive course, I became trained in the use of leading CAT tools such as SDL Trados, Passolo, Déjà Vu, OmegaT and Wordfast. I am now a confident user in these tools. I have carried out voluntary translations for organisations such as Cafébabel, PEOI, Global Peacebuilders and Translations for Progress. Christopher Hall Fixby, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Dominique STEPHANY
Liaising with French-speaking outside agencies in my 25 years as Head of Modern Languages in several high-profile educational establishments in the North-East of England and producing many bilingual documents and dissertations. Organizer of exchange links between English and French schools. Interpreting for groups of visiting English tourists in Brittany. Own properties in France and am familar with "notaire talk" Freelance English to French, French to English translation since 2005 : history of the Crusades, 10,000 wd doc. about spread of AIDS, tourist office website pages, real estate documentation, CVs, insurance documents, marriage/divorce papers, short stories, local government planning briefs, instruction manuals, menus etc. I also work with several translation agencies, in the UK and abroad. I have worked as a French examiner at all levels for the last 28 years: • 1980/2003: yearly involvement in all aspects of public examinations in French for the YREB (Yorkshire Regional Examination Board), the JMB ( Joint Matriculation Board), and finally AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance), including oral examining at O’ and A’ Levels, serving as Assistant Chief Examiner for A’Level French (JMB) for 3 years, professional RECORDINGS for various listening examinations, drafting of examination papers, moderating coursework etc. • 2007/08: examiner for the International Baccalaureate Organisation (Diploma level) • 2007: registered as a French examiner by the Institute of Linguists (UK) . 2008: A\'Level French examiner for AQA (Assessment & Qualifications Alliance) Finally, what makes me a good translator? Throughout my long teaching career, particularly as a high-profile Head of a Modern Languages Department, I have been fanatical about grammatical and spelling accuracy. I am an avid reader (1 book a week on average, alternating between French and English) of contemporary fiction, autobiographies, political memoirs and history and keep up with French current affairs both on the net and by listening to French radio. This, combined with my frequent visits to my home country, has made me become very aware of linguistic trends and gives me the edge when it comes to choosing the appropriate register/terminology when translating a text. I ALWAYS meet deadlines, in fact usually complete all projects with ample time to spare. All I ask of potential clients is to be given the chance to do a test piece, those who do so usually pick me!
