I am an avid reader (1 book a week on average, alternating between French and English) of contemporary fiction, autobiographies, political memoirs and history and keep up with French current affairs both on the net and by listening to French radio. This, combined with my frequent visits to my home country, has made me become very aware of linguistic trends and gives me the edge when it comes to choosing the appropriate register/terminology when translating a text.
